A logistics platform changes hands, Soma adds short-term borrowing capacity, and Quebec ski maker Ferreol attracts growth investment.
Good morning. Today’s useful details sit behind the headline: what a buyer wants to replicate, how quickly a lender can call its money, and what technical support brings alongside capital.
Metro joins NX’s global logistics plans
Nippon Express Holdings announced today that it acquired all shares of Montreal-headquartered Metro Supply Chain Group on October 1. This is an update on an earlier closing—not a deal that closed this morning. The release does not disclose the purchase price.
Metro operates contract logistics businesses in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. NX plans to make it a core platform for its global contract logistics business, drawing on Metro’s fulfilment methods and warehouse automation and pursuing cross-selling with international transport and forwarding services.
The interesting part is the operating model. NX’s stated plans suggest it sees capabilities that could travel beyond Metro’s existing footprint. That is a buyer’s intended next step, not evidence that the integration has already delivered results.

Soma’s credit facility has a shorter clock inside it
TSXV-listed Soma Gold has arranged an unsecured revolving credit facility of up to C$2.5 million from Hampson Equities, a company controlled by Soma’s CEO and chairman, Geoff Hampson. The release gives no drawn amount.
Soma intends to finance working capital and purchases of mineralized material from third-party producers in Colombia.
Advances carry 6% annual interest and are due six months after each draw. The lender can demand repayment on five business days’ written notice. Soma can also prepay without a penalty.
A six-month maturity therefore does not promise six months of uninterrupted funding. The repayment rights deserve as much attention as the rate. The board approved this insider-related facility with Hampson abstaining.

Ferreol pairs growth investment with technical backing
Fondaction and the Centre québécois de recherche et de développement de l’aluminium (CQRDA) announced a partnership combining financing and technical support for Quebec aluminium processors. Ferreol Skis is its first investment recipient, and the Bernard Trottier family is also investing.
The investment is intended to support research and development at Ferreol’s Beaupré lab and expansion into new markets, particularly Europe. The company makes skis using Quebec aluminium.
The release supplies neither the investment amount nor its instrument, and does not establish when money was disbursed. The useful feature is the pairing: capital comes with technical expertise and a route toward commercial expansion. Whether those plans deliver is still ahead of the announcement.
